(Seaview Room) 2D1N Westin Desaru Coast Resort Review
Desaru is the top choice for a beach escapade, but with an array of hotels to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one to book, especially between Westin Desaru or Hard Rock Desaru.
To give you some ideas, I have compiled a comprehensive guide to take you through a 2D1N stay at Westin Desaru.
It includes ferry guide, food, shuttle bus, activities, beach side and things you can do at Westin Desaru Resort.
Reading long information can be boring, so to make it more helpful, I have also included photos that could help you visualize your stay better.
Hope this information and personal experiences will help you plan your next Desaru vacation!

1. Overall 2D1N Itinerary
Here is my 2D1N itinerary for you to follow, if you are considering staying at the Westin Resort in Desaru.
I don’t want to bore you with lengthy words, so I’ll just let the photos do its job.
Note that I am boarding the ferry for this 2D1N trip, because I am going alone and it is more convenient. I have been to Desaru before (stayed in Hard Rock Desaru), so for this Desaru trip I prefer to stay for just a night.
However, I highly recommend hiring a private taxi to take you to Desaru from Singapore, if you are going in a group of more than 3 people.
This way you can avoid the hassle at the Singapore-Malaysia border, save time, have more flexibility and definitely be more cost effective!

2. What To Pack – Just 1 Bag
Since I was alone and taking a ferry, I decided to carry just one bag. I have to pack smart but I made sure not to leave out the essentials:
Here’s what I packed:
- Swimming Suite
- Sunblock
- Sunglasses
- Water Sport Wear
- Books
- Some Snacks
- Cloth For 2 Days
- Sandals Or Shoes
- Iphone,
- Credit Card, RM Cash
- Passport
3. Surrounding of Westin Desaru Resort (Photos)
Check out some snapshots of the surroundings in Westin Desaru that I took using my Iphone 15 PRO.
These photos will help you visualize the place and understand the whole resort area better.

5. Unboxing Westin Desaru Seaview Room (Photos)
Let’s take a look at more photos of the Westin Desaru Seaview Room.
My room was Seaview Deluxe which cost RM788 for 1 night stay. The price would be higher during peak season and the weekend.
Note that sea view rooms are priced higher than the garden or tropical view rooms.
Here are the plus points about the room:
- Room is more spacious and luxurious compared to Hard Rock
- The Seaview room has a beautiful view of the South China Sea
- The mattress is better than Hard Rock (but the mattress at Anantara Resort is still the best)
I really love the seaview room. I felt like falling into a very comfortable sleep the moment I laid on the bed and had a gorgeous view of the South China Sea.
Now I know why the slogan is “Sleep Well with Expansive View”. It is so apt!
If you want to stay at a more luxurious resort like Anantara Desaru Resort, you can read my review post below:
6. Facilities In Westin Desaru Resort (Complimentary)
Westin Desaru offers similar overall facilities like Hard Rock and Anantara Resort Desaru. Here are some of them:
- Kids Club
- Spa center
- Gym Room
- Buggy Car
- Coral Lounge & Games Room
- Meeting Room
- Kids Pool & Adult Pool
- Bicycle
However, I personally think that customers will usually consider the price, room size, view and accessibility to the beach at Desaru Resort first, before the overall facilities.
7. Public Beach Westin Desaru Resort
Moving on the beach side now, as this is the second selling point of Westin Desaru Resort for sure. The overall area of the beach is really nice, and it is clean and well maintained.
It has lounge chairs, a beach bar and water sport activities offered by Dash Outdoor for an exciting day on the beach.
I have also written a post about Westin Desaru Resort beach. Check it out to find more information about the public beach at Westin Desaru Resort.
8. Food Selection – Prego & Seasonal Taste
Because I came to Desaru Coast by Ferry, I do not have my own transport to move around. So, my mealtimes are all in the Desaru Coast area.
The three restaurants that I went to are:
- Big Easy Bar at Els Ocean
- Prego Italian cuisine
- Seasonal Taste (local food)
For information about each restaurant, refer to: 5 Dining Option In Westin Desaru Coast
Here are some shots of my yummy lunch and dinner taken:
My lunch at Els Ocean Golf Course Restaurant cost around RM70
My tea time at the beach bar cost around RM70.
My dinner at Prego Italian cost around RM98.
I had breakfast at the Westin Seasonal Taste and I think it was great! The food was delicious and had lots of options to choose from.
Other options for meals:
- Walk to Hard Rock Hotel Desaru and dine at their restaurants
- Take a shuttle bus to Els Club Ocean and Els Club Valley (both have 5-star restaurants)
- Book a private van to Nelayan Seafood by The Coast (5 minutes drive away)
- Or check here for more of the best local food in Desaru: 15 Best Food Near Desaru Coast
9. Shuttle Bus Trip – DG1 & DG2
It is important to get to know the shuttle bus information if you don’t have any transport in Desaru Coast.
Generally it has 2 routes: DG1 and DG2. Both are fully EV buses.
Here is the timetable of the bus:
I personally enjoyed taking the shuttle bus for a full round of the Desaru Coast and exploring its vicinity.
You can take the free shuttle bus to get to Els Valley and Els Ocean if you want to try out the restaurants there.
I have written a full Desaru shuttle bus guideline for your further reference, check it out here: Desaru shuttle bus
10. Live Band – Hard Rock Hotel Desaru
During my Hard Rock Desaru trip last year, I took the opportunity to enjoy its live band mini concert.
It was really entertaining, as Hard Rock resort has a more “rock n’ roll” and contemporary feeling than Westin Desaru Hotel.
You can walk to Hard Rock Desaru to enjoy the live band. The show ends at 10.30 PM.
After a night of entertainment, have a comfortable rest in your room at Westin.
11. Conclusion
So to sum up, the seaview is definitely the main reason why to choose Westin, with a gorgeous view of the South China Sea from your room while you are comfortably lying on your bed.
The room is bigger but with a slightly higher price than Hard Rock Desaru, and the complimentary breakfast buffet is also a lot better.
However, one thing I disliked about Westin was that there were not many options to chill and relax except for the public beach and the swimming pool.
Even though the swimming pool is nice, it is mostly really hot during the day. The pool and the public beach could also be very crowded during peak season.
Nevertheless, I find the overall experience amazing and worth the dollars that I have paid for.
