REVIEW: Public Beach At Westin Desaru Coast

Recently, I went to the Westin Desaru Coast. Why did I choose this hotel?

In my opinion, the Westin Desaru’s outstanding beachfront location is the primary reason you should consider when planning your vacation.

The other key factor is that most of the rooms are facing the sea, offering a breathtaking view of the South China Sea.

If you compare this hotel to Hard Rock Desaru, the Westin Desaru is located just a short walk from the beach. 

Let me share some of my experiences and photos so you can better understand this hotel including insights from my Westin Desaru review and decide if it’s right for your next vacation.

 

 

 

1. Overview: Westin Desaru Coast – Public Beach

 

To kick start the vacation vibe, here are some stunning photos that were taken at the beachside.

 

2. Walk To The Beach Side 

 

Technically, Westin Desaru Coast is not a Desaru beach resort. But don’t worry—it is just a few minutes’ walk away.

Here is a quick guide on how to get there from the hotel’s lobby.

 

 

 

 

 

 

While the Westin Desaru Coast is just a short walk away, Anantara or One&Only Resort are better choices if you are looking for the perfect beachside resort.

If you want to go around the Desaru Coast area, you can take the free Desaru Coast shuttle bus.

 

3. Public Beach Facilities

 

You can find common facilities here, such as:

• Smoking area
• Toilet
• Bathing area
• Water Sport by Dash Outdoor
• Beach Chair
• Beach Bar
• Kids Club / Activities

 

Apart from the facilities, the public beach also provides:

• Towel
• Volleyball Net

4. Beach Side Water Sport

 

As you can see, Dash Outdoors is on the beach and offers a wide range of fun water sports at reasonable prices.

Their 2 best-selling water sports, which you should try (and they are affordable, too!), are the towing ride and the jetski.

 

5. Beach Bar

While you are at the beach, you can see the Beach Bar. I like the atmosphere and the setting of the bar with the sea view, it is just stunning.

But do not set your expectations too high on the bar. For RM70, you can get an average-tasting sandwich and a drink. (I am not exaggerating.)

6. Take Your Own Risk – Jellyfish 

 

This time, though, I chose not to swim because I noticed a sign that said, “Jellyfish—take your own risk.” 

Do you really dare to go swimming after seeing this?

 

 

 

So, it seemed safer for me just to hang out and take in the scenery from the public beach because I had no idea how to avoid such creatures and not wanting to risk myself.

 

7. Seaview Room Of Westin Desaru Coast 

 

Now, you must be wondering about the view from the room. Check out the view taken from the seaview room.

From these photos, you can see the beach distance and any obstacles, such palm trees in between the room and the coastline.

What I like about the room in Westin Desaru Coast is the beautiful view of the South China Sea that you can get straight from the balcony.

The room is also relatively bigger and luxurious compared to Hard Rock Desaru.

The downside of this hotel is that it offers few facilities, only the basic ones. That’s why it is all out in its beds and rooms.

But don’t worry—you can definitely experience their “Sleep Well with Expansive View” as the hotel’s slogan states.

How do I know? Because I feel it.

 

8. Conclusion

 

The Westin Desaru Coast is a fantastic option if your primary concern is a beachfront location.

The beach here is usually not busy and water sports are not common too. So it’s a nice place to relax

Beach lovers will find this place perfect because of the crystal-clear sea water and outstanding clean surroundings. 

But, if you can spend more, the Anantara Resort has more amenities and a pool 200 metres from the beach. 

I wish Westin Desaru had a similar pool, which would have enhanced their coastal experience.
