Tucked away from the usual tourist routes, Tanjung Leman Jetty can feel remote and a little rough around the edges, especially for first-timers.

But not to worry! This guide will prepare you with everything you need to know about the jetty’s surroundings, what to expect, and the best transportation options to get there!

 

 

1. Overview: Tanjung Leman Jetty

 

Tanjung Leman Jetty is the gateway to the beautiful islands of Sibu Island, Besar Island, Aur Island, Dayang Island, and Tinggi Island.

 

 

 

It’s also a favoured starting point for fishing trips as it’s close to a popular fishing area.

 

 

Travellers planning to use the Tanjung Leman Jetty can expect the following:

• The jetty is remote as it’s located far from the main road.
• The area and its surroundings are not well-maintained due to the limited number of visitors.
• There are no ferry services here and all travel is conducted by boat.
• Public transport is not available. Although you can call a taxi in an emergency, availability is uncertain.
• Facilities are minimal, and the telco line is poor.

2. Private Car Taxi (The Only Best Option)

 

To get to Tanjung Leman Jetty, hiring a private car is by far the best option.

 

 

With a private car, you can:

• Enjoy the convenience of direct pick-up from your preferred location, straight to Tanjung Leman Jetty at an affordable rate.
• Have the flexibility to depart at any time that suits your schedule.
• Get a spacious 7-to-10 seater MPVs, which is perfect for travelling with family, elderly passengers, company trips or in a group.
• Easily book a private car via Whatsapp.
• Request for early departure during booking to avoid traffic congestion at the Singapore-Malaysia border.
• Stay in the car during immigration clearance, as you won’t need to disembark twice for Singapore and Malaysia immigration checks.

 

3. Coach / Bus – Not Available

 

Unfortunately, due to its remote location, there are no coach or bus services that can take you directly to Tanjung Leman Jetty.

Your best bet would still be to hire a private car or to self-drive!

However, there are several factors to consider before self-driving to Tanjung Leman Jetty:

• Long weekends and public holidays often bring heavy traffic at the Singapore-Malaysia border.
• Unlike travelling in a private taxi, self-driving can be tiring, especially when navigating unfamiliar roads and dealing with border crossings.
• Drivers must have all necessary documents such as Touch N’ Go for toll fees and road charges, driving licence, and VEP (Vehicle Entry Permit) for a smooth border crossing.
• Unlike private taxis, self-driving travellers must predict departure time in Singapore to avoid missing the speedboat departure at Tanjung Leman Jetty.
• Parking availability near the jetty can be limited, especially during peak times which can be a nightmare, particularly when the speedboat is ready to depart.

However, if you do decide to self-drive, once you’ve reached JB CIQ, do use navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps to guide your way to Tanjung Leman Jetty.

Traffic may vary depending on your travel time so it’s best to depart early to ensure you don’t miss your speedboat!

 

5. Alternative Jetty: Mersing Jetty

 

While Tanjung Leman Jetty is a great departure point for islands such as Aur Island, Dayang Island, and Besar Island, you can also rent a speedboat to these islands via Mersing Jetty.

 

 

However, it’s worth noting that Mersing Jetty is not as commonly used for trips to Sibu Island.

Additionally, if neither the Tanjung Leman or Mersing jetty is your cup of tea, travellers can also book private chartered speed boats directly from Tanjung Leman to visit these islands.

 

 

 

6. Bonus: Nearby Chalet In Tanjung Leman
