Desaru Alpaca Animal Farm/Zoo (Imported Animal)
If you’re Googling nearby attractions in Desaru, you might come across Desaru Alpaca Farm.
Desaru Alpaca Farm is a well-known tourist spot, especially for families with kids. But don’t get fooled by the name of the place.
Besides alpacas, this farm boasts a ton of interesting and exotic animals imported mostly from Australia! I’ve been told that they even cost RM10-30k.
The owners have trained the animals to be friendly and familiar with people, which gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal with them.
In my opinion, I think this place is sorely underrated compared to Desaru Mini Zoo in Pengerang.
It’s also nearer compared to Desaru Mini Zoo and Desaru Ostrich Farm.
Recently, I visited this farm and I’ll be sharing with you my experiences, some pictures, as well as the species of animals available there. (That’s if I can remember them all!)

4. My Journey In This Alpaca Farm
Don’t touch the bamboo rat without the zookeeper’s supervision! Its razor sharp teeth can cut even steel.
Capybara, anyone? It’s like a pig with the feet of a duck.
Here are the alpacas that brought so many visitors to the farm when it first began.
Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of any wallabies because they were all hiding in the cabinet.

This is the cutest thing on the farm! It’s like touching a small but adorable durian.
Make sure to come to the guinea pig station. I think the kids would love to pet them.
Meerkat Station!!!! I think most of us got first acquainted with them through Disney movies.
This is the stinkiest animal in the world, and its pungent gas spray can linger on your body for months. But don’t worry, this skunk’s scent glands have been removed.
This little racoon doesn’t really enjoy being touched by humans.
This chicken is like the farm’s security guard. You can find it patrolling the grounds.
Now, I think this chicken is THE HULK of the farm. Look at its size!
This is an emu, which is the same species as the ostrich, though smaller in size.
Next up is the Cassowary. This is a species of bird.
Don’t get too close to the pony without the zookeeper around. It may look harmless but a pony can bite you!
Now let’s move on to the indoor animals.
Bearded Dragon and Gecko
The end.
5. Things To Note
- Unlike other animal farms, this one is almost completely sheltered! That’s a huge plus point. Whether rain or shine, unpredictable weather won’t ruin your visit.
- The farm is run by very knowledgeable family who are clearly passionate about animals.
- To feed the animals, you’ll have to pay a very small fee for the feed.
- The tour is very interactive and personalised, allowing you to really get up close with the animals.
- Animals seem very docile, which is great for kids (But always remember to check with the zookeeper if you want to pet or go near an animal!).
- Pay attention to any do’s and don’ts explained by your guide.
- There are horse or pony rides available.
6. Conclusion
Overall, we had a memorable experience and got a chance to meet many rare and exotic animals.
More importantly, it’s great exposure for kids. The interactive tours help them to nurture a love and curiosity for animals.
So if you’re looking for a lovely animal farm with less crowds compared to Desaru Mini Zoo, please give Desau Alpaca Farm a shot.
It is sheltered, has various imported animals from Australia, and staff who are friendly and well-educated on animals.
