Bus From Singapore To JB Guide (2025 Updated SG-JB Bus Summary)
This is The Ultimate Guide (updated May 2024) for those looking for all Singapore bus routes to/from Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
In this article, you’ll find buses from Singapore to JB via Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas 2nd Link Checkpoint.
This is a good guide for regular travellers between Singapore and Malaysia or even for a casual solo trip with 1 or 2 friends.
But if this is a group trip or family holiday to Johor, please DO NOT take the bus, especially with all your luggage, kids, or elderly family members. It will be a waste of your patience and energy crossing the border.
As one of the busiest borders in the world, the border crossing between Singapore and Malaysia is infamous for its terrible traffic jams.It gets super crowded on the bus and at customs checkpoints during weekends and holidays. (The highest traffic count in a single day was recorded at 500,000 people!)
So it’s a fact that booking a car hire service would be the best way to travel between Malaysia and Singapore.
Otherwise, you might be at risk of ruining your long weekend and precious holiday
Here is the list of all available buses from Singapore to JB and vice versa.

19. My Final Thought
1. Take Bus Via Woodlands Checkpoint Or Tuas Checkpoint
There are two checkpoints—namely Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint—that will get you from Singapore to JB.
Woodlands Checkpoint is commonly known as the 1st link between Singapore & Malaysia, whereas Tuas Checkpoint is known as the 2nd Link.
So which link do you choose?
The first thing I would recommend you to do is to identify the exact location you would like to visit in JB.
If you are going to the JB Town area, such as Mid Valley JB, Larkin, KSL, JBCC, Komtar, JPO, KSL, and Mount Austin, please head to Woodlands Checkpoint.
If you are thinking of the Johor Iskandar area, such as Gelang Patah, Sunway Iskandar, Legoland Malaysia, Puteri Harbour, Forest City, and Aeon Bukit Indah, please look out for Tuas Checkpoint bus routes.
The second thing you should consider is the availability of a direct bus or connecting bus. Direct buses would be quicker from 1 point in Singapore to another point in Malaysia.
In this post, you will get the complete on-ground info that we’ve collected on each pickup point in Singapore. This way, you’ll get to make better decisions on which bus route to choose.
Also read post below if you looking for other transport option from Singapore to JB
2. Check The Bus Route Using Google Maps Or Lugo App
Based on my experience, Google Maps can be accurate at indicating the arrival of a bus at the bus station.
Here you can see the screenshot of the bus number shown in Google Maps.
And here is the LUGO app showing the available bus routes for Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint. You can even check the bus location LIVE, so that you know what time to catch the bus.
3. Singapore – JB Bus Route Summary (Woodlands & Tuas Checkpoints)

So you can refer to which route and preference of location you can consider.
If you are feeling confused, let’s put it this way.
- Typically, most people will go to the Kranji MRT and then take the CW1,170X to Woodlands Checkpoint. This is because the buses are very frequent, usually every 2-3 mins.
- Alternatively, you can take CW2 & SJE Bus directly to Woodlands Checkpoint, which will stop you at the Larkin bus station if you want.
- For those heading to JB Sentral / Komtar JBCC / City Square, please take a 5-minute walk from JB CIQ.
You can also refer to the image below to get a better idea of the route connection for border crossing.
4. Payment Method: Ezlink, ManjaLink, Visa/Master, Nets or Cash
The payment method depends on the bus operator’s SOP.
If you travel regularly between Singapore and Malaysia, please buy an EZ-Link card in Singapore and install the “Simply Go” App to monitor your card’s balance and expenses.
If you are just a one-time traveller, you can pay the driver in cash. Do note that the driver won’t have small change for you, so it’s best to bring the exact amount.
All fares paid in the Singapore Region are in SGD currency. In Malaysia, it is MYR Ringgit.
Bear in mind that sometimes, the payment system might undergo temporary maintenance or be “out of service”. In that case, you might not be able to use Visa and Mastercard to pay at the machine.
For “CW Yellow Bus” Causeway Link buses, you can pay using the ManjaLink Card, which can be purchased at Bugis bus station, JB Sentral, JB CIQ bus station, and other places. The fare for Causeway Link buses would be cheaper using ManjaLink. Here’s where you can find ManjaLink counters:
ManjaLink Counters List: https://manja.my/get-manjalink/
For payment FAQs, you can check the list here. https://www.causewaylink.com.my/cashless-travel/transit-with-visa/transit-with-visa-faqs/
For SBS or SMRT buses, you can use Visa/Mastercard or Nets card to tap-in and tap-out on the machine for your fare.
In this post, I won’t list down the exact bus fare because I think most of the buses are affordable and only cost a few Singapore Dollars or Malaysian Ringgit.
For now, let’s worry about the bus list instead of the fare.
5. CW1,170x or 170 – Kranji MRT Station to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
Once you tap the EZ-Link card at the MRT exit, you will see the list of bus stations, such as in the photos below.
Causeway Link Bus CW1
CW1 Bus Schedule: Daily from 6:30am to 11:30pm, bus interval every 15-30 minutes
CW1 Bus Fare: SGD$2.60 by cash, ManjaLink card or Visa
Notes:
- You just have to tap the Ez-Link card once to get the receipt.
- It costs around SGD 2.60 per trip.
- Do not tap the payment machine when you alight at the checkpoint.
SBS Bus 170x or 170
170x Bus Schedule: Daily from 5:37am to 11:37pm, bus interval every 2-11 minutes
170x Bus Fare: SGD$2.30 by cash or Approx S$1.55 by EZ-Link card
Notes:
- Please tap the payment machine using any Visa/Mastercard or Ez-Link card.
- You can also pay in cash.
- Tap the payment machine each time you board.
Look for 170X, 170 or CW1 to Woodlands Checkpoint. I would say 90% of people at the Kranji MRT are Malaysians going home to JB. If you’re not sure which bus to take, simply ask a passerby.
You don’t have to worry about missing the bus because the next bus will come in 2-3 mins.
However, please avoid after-working hours, that is from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. It will be very crowded at Woodlands Checkpoint and on the bus.
The fare for each bus above would be around SGD$ 2.00 – 3.00.
Notes:
- Estimated travel time is 5 -10 minutes with 1 stop on the CW1.
- SBS 170 from Kranji Station to Woodlands Checkpoint is 7 stops.
- SBS 170x from Kranji Station is 5 Stops.
- Please expect a long queue during 5:00pm-7:00pm or 7:00am-9:00am.
- Do retain your tickets if you have paid by cash as you will need to show it when you reboard the bus.
6. CW2, SJE – Bugis Queen Street to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
Causeway Link Bus CW2: From Queen Street to JB CIQ / JB Sentral
CW2 Bus Schedule:
Daily from 4:01am to 10:59pm, bus interval every 15-30 minutes
Midnight from 11:00pm to 4:00am, bus interval every 45 minutes.
CW2 Bus Fare: SGD$4.80 by cash, ManjaLink or Visa
The best option from Bugis Queen Street to Woodlands Checkpoint would be CW2 due to its high frequency. There is a bus almost every 15 – 30 mins, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time waiting for the next bus.
Notes:
- If you have no issues with the chances of having to stand for an hour plus, CW2 is a good choice. (It has much fewer stops compared to SBS170)
- Keep your ticket with you during transit.
- You can get to Queen Street Terminal by walking from either Bugis or Rochor MRT Stations.
- The walk from Bugis MRT to Queen Street Bus station has no roof or any shade. It’s a 15-minute walk from the MRT station.
SJE (Singapore-Johore Express Bus): From Queen Street Terminal to Larkin Bus Terminal
SJE Bus Schedule: Daily from 6:30am to 12.00am, every 30-45 minutes
SJE Bus Fare: SGD$3.30 by cash
Notes:
- ONLY CASH accepted, so please pay at the counter
- Comfortable seats compared to CW2 and SBS170
- Although there are fewer passengers taking this bus (meaning it’s easier for you to get a seat), this bus is less frequent at the checkpoint.
SBS Bus 170 (red plate): From Queen Street Terminal to Larkin Bus Terminal
SBS 170 Bus Schedule: Daily from 5:20am to 12:10am, bus interval every 15-25 minutes.
SBS 170 Bus Fare: SGD$ 2.80 by cash or Approx S$2.04 by EZ-Link card
Notes:
- Unless you are aiming to sightsee Singapore along your ride, definitely DO NOT take this bus because it makes too many stops!
7. 950 – Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
Bus 950 route also stops at the Marsiling MRT station. If you are around this area, you can look for Bus 950 to Woodlands Checkpoint.
SMRT Bus 950
Bus 950 Schedule: Daily: from 5:30am to 11:30pm (Sat, Sun & Public Holiday: until 11:45pm), bus interval every 9-13 minutes.
Bus 950 Fare: SGD$1.19 by EZ-Link card or SGD$2.10 by cash
If you are looking for indirect buses to Woodlands Checkpoint at Woodlands bus stations, you can try searching with the Google Maps app. From there, you can choose your preferred bus and view your bus’s details.
Alternatively, look for Woodlands Train Station buses as Woodlands Checkpoint and train station are located in the same building and are within a 5-minute walking distance.
8. AC7 – Yishun Bus Interchange to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
Exit from Yishun MRT Station. Please keep your eyes on the bus icon on the signboard. Follow the directions to get to the Yishun Bus interchange.
It might take more time looking for the bus interchange at the MRT as some of the direction stickers are on the floor and not the ceiling.
Bus AC7
Bus AC7 Schedule: Daily: from 5:40am to 11:30pm, bus interval every 25-30 minutes.
Bus AC7 Fare: Approx SGD$2.50 by EZ-Link card; or SGD$3.00 by cash
Notes:
- Although it is stated that the frequency of each coach is every 25-30 minutes, it can be less frequent from people’s experience. You might want to plan ahead so you will have a buffer time.
- Unless you are staying nearby at this bus interchange, please don’t use this bus route as your preferred bus.
- Please note that AC7’s berth is located at the end of the berth. It is at least 15 minutes away from Yishun MRT. It gets quite tiring to walk there.
- I would suggest Kranji MRT CW1 as the better option!
9. CW3, CW4, CW4S – Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange to JB
Please note that Jurong Town Hall is a new bus interchange in Jurong East. It is a 10-15 minutes walk from Jurong East MRT station. Have a look at the photos below as a guide for getting to Jurong Town Hall bus interchange.
Causeway Link Bus CW3: From Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange to Perling Mall JB (Via Tuas 2nd Link)
CW3 Bus Schedule: Daily from 7:30am to 11:30pm, bus interval every 20-30 minutes
CW3 Bus Fare: SGD$6.00 by cash, ManjaLink card
Causeway Link Bus CW4: From Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange to Pontian (Via Tuas 2nd Link)
CW4 Bus Schedule: Daily from 7:30am to 6:20pm, bus interval every 15-30 minutes
CW4 Bus Fare: SGD$4.50 + RM4.20 by cash, ManjaLink card
Causeway Link Bus CW4S: From Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange to Sutera Mall JB (Via Tuas 2nd Link)
CW4S Bus Schedule: Daily from 7:30am to 11:30pm, bus interval every 1 hour
CW4S Bus Fare: SGD$6.00 by cash, ManjaLink card
SBS Bus 160: From Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange to JB CIQ/Sentral (Via Woodlands Checkpoint)
Bus 160 Schedule: Daily from 5:25am to 12:00am (midnight), bus interval every 12-20 minutes
Bus 160 Fare: SGD$ 2.50 by cash or Approx SGD$1.84 by EZ-Link Card
Note:
- SBS Bus 160 is the only bus that goes to Woodlands Checkpoint. However, if you have the choice, DO NOT board this bus because there are just too many stops in between before you even reach Woodlands Checkpoint!
- Keep your ticket with you during transit.
10. CW5 – Newton Circus Food Center to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
Causeway Link Bus CW5 is connecting Newton Circus Food Center to Johor City Center via Woodlands Checkpoint.
Once you have arrived at Newton MRT Station, take Exit at right and make a U-Turn to Clemenceau Ave. Look out for the Food Center signboard.
You will see a mini bus station located at the Parking Station. Refer to the photos below.
Causeway Link Bus CW5
CW5 Bus Schedule: Daily from 6:45am to 11:30pm, bus interval every 45 minutes
CW5 Bus Fare: SGD$4.60 by cash, ManjaLink card or Visa
11. CW6 – Boon Lay MRT Bus Station to Perling Mall JB
Causeway Link Bus CW6 is connecting Boon Lay MRT bus station to Perling Mall JB via Tuas Checkpoint.
When you exit from the MRT station, please look out for the bus station. The signboard is not very clear but you can refer to the following photos for better directions to the bus station.
Causeway Link Bus CW6
CW6 Bus Schedule: Daily from 7:30am to 11:00pm, bus interval every 20-30 minutes
CW6 Bus Fare: SGD$5.00 by cash, ManjaLink card
12. CW7 – Tuas Link MRT to CIQ Second link (Loop Service)
Once you have arrived at Tuas MRT Station, take Exit A to go to the bus stop.
Please note that the LUGO App shows incorrect info about CW7 from Tuas Link MRT to Terminal Gelang Patah.
Customer service at the Terminal Gelang Patah counter has told me that the CW7 normally only does a loop service between Tuas and CIQ Checkpoint. If the CW4G Bus is out of service, the CW7 will replace CW4G.
Causeway Link Bus CW7
CW7 Bus Schedule: Daily from 7:30am to 11:00pm, bus interval every 15-30 minutes
CW7 Bus Fare: SGD$4.50 by cash, ManjaLink
13. TS1 – Changi Airport T1 & T4 to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
TS1 is operated by Transtar Travel. For those arriving at Changi Airport, you can get Bus TS1 to JB CIQ. However, this is not a non-stop direct transfer from Changi Terminal to JB as it has many stops in-between. Please look at the schedule below.
TS1 Bus Schedule: Daily from 8:15am to 9:15pm, bus interval every 2-4 hours
TS1 Bus Fare: SGD$11.00 by cash or EZ-Link card
In case you are still not sure how to find the TS1 bus terminal at Changi Airport, have a look at the photo below:
Notes:
- I would suggest waiting at Terminal 1 instead of Terminal 4, because Terminal 1 is the first pickup point. If you arrive early, you can check whether the bus is there.
- No advance bus ticket booking is required. You just have to board the bus on the spot and pay the driver.
- Don’t expect the bus schedule to be 100% accurate.
- The bus operator can change the bus schedule without any prior notification.
- Bus schedules are subject to change based on the traffic condition.
- I would suggest that you go to the Transtar Travel counter to confirm the timing / schedule.
14. TS3 – Pan Pacific Bus station to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
TS3 is operated by Transtar Travel. This is not a non-stop direct bus to JB as it has many stops in-between. Please look at the schedule below.
TS3 Bus Schedule: Change frequently, check Transtar website for schedule details

- Bus schedules are subject to change based on the traffic condition.
- There is no customer service counter here. The only way is just to wait here and track the bus using the LUGO App or Google Maps.
15. TS8 – Resort World Sentosa Bus station to JB CIQ/JB Sentral
TS8 is operated by Transtar Travel. This is not a nonstop direct bus to JB as it has many stops in-between. Please look at the schedule below.

TS8 Bus Fare: SGD$11.00 by cash or EZ-Link card
It’s easy to get to the Transtar Counter. Just go to the counter to confirm the schedule and then wait for the bus.
If you are in urgent need and you have missed the bus, please get a local taxi at the taxi stand. Then, head to the Bugis Queen Street bus station to catch the direct CW2,SJE bus to Woodlands or CIQ checkpoint. I think this would be the best alternative as Resorts World Sentosa is not far from Bugis Street.
Note:
- No advance bus ticket booking is required. You just have to board the bus on the spot and pay the driver.
- Don’t expect the bus schedule to be 100% accurate.
- The bus operator can change the schedule without any prior notification.
- Bus schedules are subject to change based on the traffic condition.
- Peak season, especially during the long weekend holiday, might expect tickets to be sold-out early.
16. TS6 – SG Buona Vista to Gelang Patah Sentral

TS6 Bus Schedule: Change frequently, check Transtar website for schedule details
TS6 Bus Fare: SGD$6.00 by cash or EZ-Link card
This is the exact pickup point for Bus TS6 at Buona Vista.
It’s not a good choice taking TS6 because the bus is not frequent and there is no service counter at this bus stop.
Notes:

17. Connecting Bus CW3L, CW3S, CW4G, CW7L , FC1 – Via Tuas Checkpoint / CIQ 2nd Link to Johor
All connected buses below will pick you up at CIQ Malaysia 2nd Link Checkpoint. Each bus has many stops in-between, so please plan your trip and drop-off point ahead using the LUGO App.

18. Connecting Bus CWL (Larkin) – Via Woodlands Checkpoint / JB CIQ 1st Link to Johor

So, if you board CW1, CW2, or CW5 buses from Singapore, you would need to alight from the bus at JB CIQ and take the CWL connecting bus in JB CIQ to reach Larkin Sentral.
Causeway Link Bus CWL
CWL Bus Schedule: Daily From 6:30am to 11:30pm (Sunday until 9:45pm), bus interval every 20-30 minutes

19. Conclusion – My Final Thought of Taking Bus to/from Singapore – JB
You may feel that there are just too many buses to choose from. It all depends on which bus route suits you better. Don’t get overwhelmed by having so many choices. All you need is just 1-2 buses to help you cross the border.
Final thoughts:
Here are my suggestions based on each category.
Casual outing with 2-3 friends: You can take the bus during office hours.
Low budget: Bus would be your best choice.
Shopping trip: It’s better to take the taxi across the border so you won’t have to lug too much around.
Long weekend holiday: Book your private car/taxi in advance. The traffic congestion will spoil your holiday mood.
Business trip: Private car from Singapore to Malaysia would be the best choice.
Family trip to Johor: Private car from SG to the doorstep of your destination. (Best choice ever!)
FAQs:
Q1: How do I pay on the bus?
If you regularly travel between JB and SG, please buy a ManjaLink card for Causeway Link buses and an Ez-Link card. For one-time travellers, please bring cash, Visa, or Mastercard.
Q2: Are there any midnight buses that cross the Singapore-JB Border?
Yes, you can look for the CW2 Causeway Link yellow bus.
Q3: Should I keep the bus ticket after getting on board?
Yes, normally CW buses will issue receipts. As long as you have to re-board the bus after alighting at the checkpoint, you should keep your bus ticket.
Q4: What are the best bus operators to cross the border between Singapore & JB ?
Causeway Link CW bus or SBS Transit 170x bus are the best.
Q5: What is the best time to cross the border?
If you are a casual traveller, please take the bus after 9:30am and before 5:00pm during weekdays. On Sundays, usually before 5:00pm, many Malaysians will be taking the bus to get ready for work on Monday.
Q6: Is it better taking the KTM Train to/from SIngapore?
Yes, if you can get a ticket. But personally, it’s not my preferred choice because you would have to arrive at the train station on time to board. Since the CW buses have a high frequency, why take the KTM? Typically, KTM tickets for morning and evening are sold out within minutes after release, because a lot of Malaysians are buying them to cross the border for work.
Q7: Is it suitable for a group trip to take a bus to/from Singapore - JB ?
NO, please don’t do that if you are planning for your holiday. You will waste so much energy trying to cross the checkpoint with luggage / kids or elderly people.
Q8: Can I use an Ez-Link card to pay for the Causeway Link yellow bus?
No, please get your cash or ManjaLink card ready.
Q9: What is a ManjaLink payment card?
It is a card promoted by Causeway Link. You can track your bus status and top up your ManjaLink card using the LUGO App.
Q10: Is it better taking Bus 170, CW1, CW2, CW5 to cross the border?
Yes, high frequency of buses.
Q11: Is there any more comfortable bus to cross the border?
No. During congestion at the border, no buses are comfortable. It will be better if you can either drive your own car or hire a private car taxi.
Q12: Which border has less traffic?
It’s the same for both. It all depends on timing and season.
Q13: Can we walk across the border between Singapore & Malaysia?
Yes. Usually Malaysians who work in SIngapore do walk across the border when the buses get stuck in traffic.
Q14: What is the travel duration from Singapore to/from JB ?
It can be as short as 30 minutes during non-peak hours. During peak hours, it can be 2-4 hours.
Q15: What is the best bus pickup point if you cross the border via 2nd link (Tuas Checkpoint)?
Jurong East Town Hall bus interchange or Boon Lay CW bus station.
Q16: What is the best bus pickup point if you cross the border via 1st link (Woodlands Checkpoint)?
Kranji and Bugis Queen Street.
Q17: Is it far from JB CIQ to JB Sentral?
It’s just walking distance. Typically, passengers will walk to JB Sentral after the CIQ JB Checkpoint.
Q18: Do CW1, CW2 buses go to Larkin Sentral ?
No, only Bus 170, Bus SJE, and Bus CWL (from JB CIQ to Larkin Sentral) do.
